Deep Roots

Last night we had a windstorm like none I had ever been through before. I have been told that winds were gusting to 65 mph where I live.  Remarkably, our house came through it unscathed, considering we live next to a dense forest and have very tall trees in our yard. With everything that is [...]

5 Tips for Finding Your Tribe

I am an artist.   Being an artist is filled with days of isolation, even though I am not alone in my thoughts and ideas, it can feel like a lonely world.  Just a few years ago I moved to a totally different place, an island, away from my family and the world I knew for [...]

I often break from abstracts to keep things interesting. I love making faces and figures that are crazy and fun and bit unorthodox.
Homage to the beautiful city of Chicago. I have visited many times and love the vibrancy. It has a physiognomy all its own and yes it can get very windy.
I am busy in the studio. 3 installations in the next two weeks and a show coming up Mother’s Day weekend @whidbeyartmarket. If you are near Whidbey Island you must stop by.info at www.Whidbeyartmarket.com
My paintings have layers, sometimes many layers. This is one of those with many layers. This painting has taken on many faces. Sometimes I think a painting is done then when I come back to it I’m just not happy with it. So on goes another layer. Sometimes the layers are intentional, other times it is the unfulfilled painting that I keep working on into its new life. One thing about the layers is that it creates depth and visual interest.
This is a piece I had done some time ago. I love the color Red. I have gotten a bit away from red lately, but I think that will have to change 😊
Cleaning my studio looking at works once again and seeing them with fresh eyes. It always amazes me how I like a painting much better than I did when I first finished it. Disclaimer: there are many that I like iwhen I finish it and then go back and say to myself “what was I thinking??” And not liking it at all. The life of an artist 😊
